Mass Production Remains on Track + An Unexpected Pivot
5 months ago – Wed, Nov 15, 2023 at 08:08:50 AM

Greetings, Skyrisers!

We are pleased to inform you that mass production of Skyrise is continuing at a steady pace! We also want to let you know you of a recent decision we made on the buliding miniatures.

After testing Collector’s Edition buildings with foil accents around their numbers, our entire team ultimately decided that it's just not working. At various angles, the foil reflects light from the sun or overhead lights into your eyes, detracting from the legibility of the numbers. Additionally, depending on the color of the foil itself and the color of light that it is reflecting, a building's color may also be distorted or confused, further reducing usability. We do not want the playability of the game to be dependent upon the angle or intensity of a room's lighting. Finally, due to the tiny margins on the number tile, it is impossible to guarantee proper alignment of the foil stamp. In order to maximize legibility, playability, accessibility, and manufacturing consistency, we have decided not to apply foil to the bases of the buildings. With how long it has taken to get these building miniatures right, we owe it to all of you to not try to force an idea that would risk an inferior product and/or reduced usability.

It is very important to our team that everyone feels that the value we provide is greater than or equal to the value of the product that was offered during the campaign. In this case, the budget set for the foil stamping on buildings is actually less than the cost of the tray lid, which was added to the game after the conclusion of the campaign and quietly introduced in Update #34. The tray lid has the dual purpose of providing storage cavities for the player and game boards while also preventing the building miniatures from shifting in the box. With the inclusion of this functionality upgrade, you are still getting the insane value that we offered during the campaign. We hope that everyone agrees at this point that at Roxley we make all our decisions based on what is best for the GAME, and this is no exception.

Thank you for your continued support and trust in our team as we work to bring Skyrise to life! We’ll be back with another update soon, and until then…

Keep rollin' sixes!

Framing the Game
7 months ago – Thu, Oct 05, 2023 at 01:31:29 PM

Greetings, Skyrisers!

We're back with another brief update today to share the last element we're finalizing before finally hitting print and sending Skyrise off for mass production: The Island Frame!

Making sure this frame lays perfectly flat is critical, not only to make sure our city stays up in the clouds but also so that everyone can enjoy the perfect gameplay experience we've been working towards.

Let's take a glimpse at the photos:

In these photos, we're looking at injected plastic pieces without wash. We're in the fine-tuning phase with these molds, ensuring the pieces perform exactly how we want on the table.

To be clear: We are very close!

The final color of the frame will be a slightly darker color so that it's a closer match to the game board, while also being distinct from the grey buildings.

We're so close to the plastic finish line, and as we've said throughout this journey, Team Roxley endlessly appreciates your patience as we make the final changes before moving onwards to final print and production of this glorious game.

As always, we'll be watching for your observations and questions in the campaign comments. Look for our next update in two weeks' time, and until then...

Keep rollin' sixes!
