THANK YOU For An Amazing Finish! Now - What Comes Next?
5 months ago – Sat, Jul 02, 2022 at 11:32:25 PM

TL;DR: THANK YOU! The pledge manager will open in a couple of weeks' time, as well as Preorders for the public. What to do if you have payment or pledging issues (short version: Kickstarter will attempt to solve these until next week; after which you can email ks@roxley.com).

What a mind-blowing finish! Thank you everyone for your amazing support in this campaign!

We are very impressed with the positive and constructive atmosphere in the comments section. We are so thankful for everyone's amazing constructive suggestions. Please know that many of your comments have helped form the game into what it will become.

Thank you again for your continued belief in Roxley and the games we make.

- Gavan

Due to an incredible effort from our supporters over the course of the campaign, and especially in the last few days, EVERY single Funding Quest we announced was achieved! Because of you, we were able to add a host of upgrades to the Collector's Edition (and a few to the Essentials Edition, too), including highlights like the 52 unique building sculpts per game, the blimp miniatures, and the extended rulebook featuring biographies and art for the game's eight Visionaries.

We saw you organizing buddy buys with your friends. We saw you in the comments, helping each other to addon shipping and taxes. We saw your thread on Boardgamegeek encouraging each other.

And we are so grateful to all of you, for helping us make Skyrise the best possible game it can be.

Before the city of Skyrise can be built, Team Roxley is going to take a few days off to catch up on sleep, visit with our families and recover our energy, so we can be bright and fresh when we return to work next week.

Kickstarter Payment Processing

Kickstarter should by now have billed your pledge to the credit card associated to your Kickstarter account. If there are any issues, they will automatically try to resolve them for several days; this process takes care of itself in most cases, but you can try to reach their support department if necessary at support (at) kickstarter.com, if you have something special that needs to be asked or addressed.

NOTE: Team Roxley does not have access to their payment and support portal during this time. We'll be happy to support you with any issues you have, but we can't do anything for the majority of cases until Kickstarter has finished this process and exports the final backer data to us.

The Pledge Manager

Over the next couple of weeks, we will be finalizing and testing the pledge manager. (Once we have this setup, we can start to assist backers who have any issues Kickstarter could not resolve.) When this is finished, you'll be automatically sent a survey link; in that survey, you'll have the option to confirm or upgrade your pledge, add any add-ons or additional copies, provide your shipping address, and confirm your shipping charge and any taxes that apply. Roxley will use a reputable and secure pledge management platform for this.

Note: As stated throughout the campaign and in the FAQ, backers who backed for only $1 will not receive a survey link. You will still be able to purchase Skyrise as a Preorder when that option becomes available.

Ongoing Updates

As with our other Kickstarter projects, we want to keep our supporters up to date with all the news, so we will be publishing continuing updates until the games have been fulfilled (even if there's sometimes no real news to report, we still want to stay in touch; it's what we would prefer in your shoes).

Those of you who follow our social media channels already know we post regular images of our games and components; Skyrise will be added to the mix of those, so you'll be able to catch regular glimpses of additional content from the game by following us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. We'd love to see you joining the conversation at Boardgamegeek, and for all the news about our upcoming future projects, you can sign up for our newsletter at roxley.com, follow us right here on Kickstarter, and subscribe to our  YouTube channel.

Sign up HERE for an alert when Preorder sales go live! Preorders placed before fulfillment begins will have their order shipped at the same time as regular backers, and will have access to all Kickstarter content, unless specified in the Preorder item description (although we will not be able to offer the same pricing and shipping as we did for campaign backers).

Oh yeah... plus, one last thing:

What's Going On With Dice Throne?

Christmas in July?!? What the heck are our dice rolling comrades up to this time?

We'll be back soon with the next update.

FINAL DAY FUNDING QUEST, A Mystery Bonus, and Alternate Art Sneak Peek!
5 months ago – Thu, Jun 30, 2022 at 10:52:26 PM

TL;DR: Final day - thank you for helping us drive this upwards! New Funding Quest for EVERY building to have a unique sculpt. Mystery bonus coming soon! ESSENTIALS backers now gain wooden hexagonal Patron discs as a KS exclusive. Sneak peek of newest four cast members below.

Unique Sculpts For EVERY Building?!?

We're in the final day now, and Team Roxley are very grateful that you've helped us achieve EVERY single Funding Quest we had planned.

So we thought we'd add in just ONE more, to make things even more awesome!

That's right - if we make $750K Canadian in pledges, EVERY building in the Collector's Edition will be given its own unique sculpt - NO duplicates at all! (This is going to mean a LOT of additional work for designer James over the next few weeks, but we know he's up to the challenge and will knock it out of the park).

For The Essentials Backers:

Funding Quest #2, Wooden Patron Tokens, automatically upgraded the four hexagonal tokens with hidden values for all backers of the Collector's Edition - but we know we've got some fans out there pledging at the Essentials level who want to add the Wooden Token add-on pack, but wish that it included these to match!

So as a Kickstarter Exclusive, we are extending this Funding Quest to include backers of both Editions. Every Essentials Edition ordered during this campaign, or added on in the pledge manager, will now receive these four Wooden Patron tokens at no additional charge!

(Orders placed after the campaign is over will be able to purchase these separately, while supplies last.)

And As A Further Bonus...

...come back this afternoon, to see what final quest we still have up our sleeves to further enhance Skyrise for all backers!

We wouldn't leave you with only four choices of characters to play now, would we?

Here's a sneak peek at the player boards of the rest of the star-studded cast of Skyrise!

We SO appreciate all of you who have already been helping us power through these Funding Quests by sharing the campaign on your social media, checking in with your friends to see if they want to split a two-game order with you for the additional discount, and clicking thumb, fan, and subscribe on BoardGameGeek. We're confident that with your support, this last day will be enough to power us through to truly make Skyrise everything we know it can be!

THANK YOU!

We'll be back soon with the next update!

48 Hours Left to Achieve Funding Quests! HERE COME THE BLIMPS!
5 months ago – Thu, Jun 30, 2022 at 12:29:14 PM

TL;DR: We're almost there!

We're into the second last day of the campaign now, and we've achieved 15 of our 18 Funding Quests, and are quickly closing in on achieving #16 (Alternate Artwork) - leaving two more for the final push: additional unique Tall Building Sculpts (images coming soon), as well as unique sculpts for the super popular Blimp Miniatures!

These Funding Quests are set at $650K and $625K respectively, and given how most Kickstarter campaigns accelerate in the final days, these are definitely achievable. We very much appreciate all of you who have been helping us achieve them so far, by sharing the campaign, adding your add-ons in advance here on Kickstarter, giving us your thumbs on Boardgamegeek, and in so many other ways.

Blimpin' Ain't Easy

Concept image. Final design and appearance may vary. Red not guaranteed to be faster.

Upon achievement of the final Funding Quest, these four unique sculpts will be added to every Collector's Edition of Skyrise!

These miniatures will remain fully stackable, as the observation decks function as pegs, fitting nicely into recesses on the underside of each blimp Between wings, rudders, dorsal fins and pontoons, each design has four points of contact designed for stability when stacking, to minimize any unintended flights away from the scoring track.

(The original blimps from before this Funding Quest, for reference:)

Now everyone can have a good year!

Today's image on Boardgamegeek is a beautifully rendered shot of the Essentials Edition, that you can click through to embiggenate into high resolution. As always, we appreciate you helping us out with a thumbs up:

We'll be back tomorrow with the next update!

Keep rollin' sixes,

Alternate Visionaries! 3D Blimp Player Tokens! Spotlight On: Tamara de Lempicka
5 months ago – Tue, Jun 28, 2022 at 01:24:04 AM

TL;DR - Funding Quests in play now for Alternate Visionary art, 3D Blimp Player Tokens, and fully illustrated Essentials Edition inserts. Spotlight On: Tamara de Lempicka

Now that we've achieved ALL of the Alternate Building Sculpt and Gold Foil Funding Quests, we're moving into the home stretch with some of our favorite new goals to achieve - including one of THE most popular requests from the comments section: four gorgeous, 3D blimp miniatures!

3D rendered concept art. Final design and appearance may vary. Helium sold separately.

What would the city of Skyrise be without blimps? Upon the achievement of Funding Quest #14, these four elegant airships will take to the skies in every Collector's Edition! These have been designed for beauty and game functionality and will be easily stackable on the scoring track. However, the original four scoring discs will also be included in case you have a player who can't resist stealing the blimps and fidgeting with them.

Shout Out To Our Essentials Backers!

Most of our Funding Quests have had to be Collectors' Edition exclusives due to the costs involved - but we love our Essentials backers too, so we're very excited to have two of our latest Funding Quests that are exceptions to the rule! When Funding Quest #15 is achieved (close already!), every Essentials Edition will come with a gorgeous, fully illustrated cardboard insert. Additionally, the next Funding Quest - another one of our favorites - will apply to ALL editions of the game:

Funding Quest #16 will add an alternative Visionary to the back of every player board, allowing us to explore the alternate Skyrise lives of four more of our own world's historical, artistic geniuses! We'll take a closer look at them in our upcoming updates by delving into their identities, cultures, and achievements, highlighting the alternative Visionary, fully and beautifully illustrated by Andrew Bosley.

This Funding Quest is set at a very achievable $600K Canadian, so we're very excited to have it within reach - and we've still got two more surprises yet to come!

Tamara Łempicka (1898 - 1980)

Originally from Warsaw, Poland, Tamara de Lempicka called many cities home in her lifetime, living in St. Petersburg, Paris, Los Angeles, and then New York before retiring and moving first to Houston and finally to Cuernavaca, Mexico.

By age ten, young Tamara was already artistically opinionated and outspoken. Her mother, a Polish socialite, had commissioned her portrait from a prominent local artist - but Tamara hated posing and was unhappy with the finished work, so she took the pastels and made her own portrait of her younger sister instead.

She attended boarding school in Switzerland but feigned illness to escape boredom there, instead touring Italy with her grandmother, where her interest in art would begin to take hold seriously. She met her first husband there, a Polish lawyer, and they married and settled into an initially comfortable life in St. Petersburg... until the Russian Revolution took place. In December of 1917, secret police took her husband in the middle of the night. Tamara searched and searched but was only able to locate him and secure his release by offering her favors to the Swedish consul in exchange for official help. The reunited couple fled to Paris, where her daughter Kizette was born, and Tamara began to study and practice painting seriously.

Over the next two decades, her career, skill, and fame would grow to incredible heights. By 1925, her exhibits were attracting the attention of international journalists and winning awards. She toured Italy and visited the United States for commissioned work and exhibitions.

During this time, she also lived the life of a socialite, divorcing her husband (who had been unable or unwilling to find work) and dallying with lovers and would-be lovers before becoming the mistress and later the wife of one of her artistic patrons, Raoul Kuffner, a baron of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire. She was considered scandalous for her affairs, her bisexuality, and her association with lesbian and bisexual writers, artists, and a nightclub singer she became involved with and painted a portrait of.

This did not harm her career, as into the 1930s, museums had started collecting her work. She continued to receive income from commissions despite the Great Depression, including portraits of King Alfonso XIII of Spain and Queen Elizabeth of Greece.

Alarmed by the rise of the Nazi party, she persuaded her husband to sell off his Hungarian property and move most of their fortune to Switzerland before World War II. They moved to the United States in 1939, where she would continue both her artistic work and her lavish social lifestyle. Her success initially declined, but she continued to pursue her craft, evolving her style to include still life, abstracts, and the usage of the palette knife.

In the 1960s, a resurgence of interest in Art Deco would restore her name to glory in the artistic world. Her work is collected today by many celebrities, including Madonna, Jack Nicholson, and Barbara Streisand. In 2020, her painting Portrait de Marjorie Ferry set a new record for her work, selling for £16.3 million ($21.2 million) at the Impressionist and Modern Art Evening Sale at Christie's, London.

What will she make in the world of Skyrise?

We'll be back Wednesday with the next update.

Keep rollin' sixes,

Design Commentary With Gavan & Adam! 2P With Board Game Nexus! Plus: A Gold Trifecta!
5 months ago – Sat, Jun 25, 2022 at 02:17:16 AM

TL;DR: 2P Coverage from Board Game Nexus, Creator Commentary from Gavan Brown & Adam Wyse. On our way to all three levels of Alternate Building Sculpts, plus a Gold Foil Trifecta.

The Alternate Small Sculpts are close to being achieved - soon, the Collector's Edition will have Era 2 alternates for all three building sizes!

Funding Quest #11 (Gold Foil Card Backs) has been achieved, and #12 (Gold Foil Building Highlights) should be unlocked VERY soon! We're delighted to announce Quest #13 (Gold Foil On Box) to complete the Gold Foil trifecta! We loved being able to add this elegant touch on the Deluxe box covers of Brass: Birmingham and Lancashire - but on the beautiful linework of the Skyrise cover, this is a flourish that is literally going to shine!

Many of you have been curious about what Skyrise will be like with two players - so we're very pleased to have Anthony and Frances of Board Game Nexus joining us to shine the spotlight on the one-on-one experience! Why does Frances say the auction mechanic works in Skyrise when it doesn't work in other two-player games they've played? Check out their full playthrough and reaction below to find out!

Also featuring Luke: the chillest (and smallest) reviewer we've ever had.

To further illustrate the two-player experience, we bring you two 'relatively' experienced players - co-designers Gavan Brown and Adam Wyse!

While working to defeat each other on the game board, Gavan & Adam discuss building designs, the core spatial auction, the original Metropolys, Skyrise's development history, game strategy, the Wonders, and SO much more.

If you're a player who loves to peek behind the curtain at the process and reasoning behind a publisher's design choices, grab a drink and a snack and settle in: this is the video for you.

Let's have some fun: before clicking, comment below with who you think is going to win.

We'll be back after the weekend with the next update.
