Latest Updates from Our Project:

20 Jan - Chinese New Year has Begun - Short Update Today.
6 days ago – Fri, Jan 20, 2023 at 09:43:22 AM

TL;DR: CNY has begun, factories are closed for the holiday. But we do have a pretty bag to share!

Happy Chinese New Year to our backers and partners in China!

For those unaware, the Chinese New Year celebration starts now and goes until early February. (approx two weeks) That means our factory partner is Out of Office, and production work has been halted until they return. This happens every year and is all accounted for in our planning.

The big question we know you have right now is the wash sample. We are still not happy with how it looks, but we are getting closer. We will leave the cutoff date for adding the wash open until we are happy to share the results so you can make an informed decision about adding this option to your pledge.

We did get and approve the draw bag before the break  - shown below!

Thing from Wednesday everyone! When he is not acting he is doubling as a component holder for us.

Other Notable Items Still in Progress (no chance since the last update, FYI):

  • Print components and proofs continue to be iterated on.
  • 3D Island boards are in the late editing stages to prepare for mold-making.

We'll be back in two weeks with the latest!

Keep rollin' sixes!

6 Jan - Happy New Year! Take a look at a couple of the approved sculpts.
20 days ago – Fri, Jan 06, 2023 at 11:24:39 PM

TL;DR: We're sharing photos of high-quality 3D print samples + status update!

We have the entire host of buildings printed for our approval and sent to us for review as we go. Here are the first two approved sculpts - these are the brutalism style (Vera Mukhina / Lina Bo Bardi.) Please note: these are high-quality 3D prints. The final models will vary from this a little bit, and some details will be slightly less pronounced after the mold-making process.

Other Notable Items Still in Progress:

  • Print components and proofs continue to be iterated on.
  • 3D Island boards are in the late stages of editing to prepare for the mold-making process.

We'll be back in two weeks with the latest!

23 Dec - Happy Holidays! More Component Samples Have Arrived
about 1 month ago – Sat, Dec 24, 2022 at 06:12:30 PM

TL;DR: We're sharing more photos of the component samples including the wood buildings + status update!

Almost all pieces are in the late stages of approval! Specifically of note: We have given approvals now for all the 3D tower designs! Next, we will receive high-quality prints of them to examine in person, then when we approve those, the factory will begin mold making!

Other Notable Items Still in Progress:

  • The 3D map is far along but still being iterated on.
  • The wash on the 3D buildings is still being tweaked.
  • Plastics samples for review
  • The final box prototypes are being made so they can be sent to us for review.

Now, let's look at the shiny!

Cards!
Wood Tokens!
Wood Wonders & Buildings! *final wonders will be a little bit thicker than what is pictured here*
*note: you may notice the building numbers are currently all black. They will be color tinted to the color tone of each building style in the final.
Wood buidlings on the board!
The center island is missing in pictures because we haven't received the updated prototype for it yet. :)

We hope you all have a happy and safe holiday season.

Our team will be out of the office on break next week. We will be back next year!

Keep rollin' sixes!

9 Dec - Back from PAX Unplugged + Some Component Samples Have Arrived!
about 2 months ago – Sun, Dec 11, 2022 at 01:37:12 AM

TL;DR: We had a blast at PAXU, some component samples are in - we share photos!

Hey, everyone!

The team is back from PAX U, and they've reviewed the latest samples to arrive of Skyrise. Let's check out some photos...

Skyrise KS Prototype at PAX Unplugged

Let's look at the goodies!

- The Game board / player boards / punchboards (cardboard!) have all been approved!

as you can see the dual-layer reversible boards are very awesome
more of that player board goodness
Looking forward to punching this?

- You can see from the photos of the game board that it has a very high-quality finish, and James tells us it feels just as nice as it looks.

Wait for it...
Oooooooooooo
Ahhhhhhh

Behind the Scenes: The center island is missing from the shot above. This is because the fit of the interlocking elements wasn't perfect on the first proof provided. This is part of the process which we iterate on. The manufacturer is making us a second sample, which will fit perfectly after their revisions.

- Foil color samples are also in!

They look very amazing, and we are still working on selecting our favourites.

We'll be back close to Christmas with our last update of 2022!

Keep rollin' sixes!

29 Nov - Extending Pledge Manager Close & Charge Dates
about 2 months ago – Thu, Dec 01, 2022 at 12:19:16 PM

TL;DR: A quick update to let you know we have pushed the pledge manager close date again to allow more time for wash samples to arrive.

As you know, we had expected to have the wash samples by now to share with you to help you decide if you wanted to add this to your pledge. We got them, and they were not right, and the factory is working up new samples for us.

We’ve pushed the date back again on Backerkit to allow more time for you to make an informed decision about adding the wash to your copy of Skyrise.

We plan to lock down BackerKit surveys on Tuesday, January 10th, and charge cards on Thursday, January 12th. Please update/mark your calendars accordingly!

We'll be back next week with our regularly scheduled status update. Have a great weekend!

Keep rollin' sixes!
